Safety management engineers serve as the vanguard of the company’s occupational safety and health management. To further enhance their professional competence, strengthen their ability to identify and resolve issues, and better safeguard the company’s occupational safety and health, the Safety and Environmental Protection Department, following company directives, organized the 2021 on-the-job training and certification exam for safety management engineers from various project offices at the Xiaoyi Xinyu Juhui Coke Dry Quenching Project.
The training began on November 10, 2021 and lasted for four days. Nineteen safety management engineers participated in the training and took the examination in two batches.
Yang Zhiwei, Director of the Safety and Environmental Protection Department, delivered a lesson to the safety management engineers. He began by providing an overview of the company’s overall situation and development history. He then explained the basic theories of safety management in light of actual project conditions, emphasizing the company’s support for and commitment to safety initiatives.
The Safety and Environmental Protection Department conducted a training on the company’s basic workflows, safety documentation management and job responsibilities, and organized specialized learning sessions on working at heights and confined space operations. Interactive sessions were incorporated into the training. By reviewing case studies of safety incidents, participants were guided to analyze the causes of the accidents and the necessary preventive measures, which encouraged active participation and stimulated their critical thinking.
Following the theoretical training, the Safety and Environmental Protection Department organized a site visit covering joint inspections and on-site teaching, translating abstract knowledge into tangible practice. Regarding the issues identified, trainees were expected to apply these insights to avoid their recurrence in future project phases.
The post-training discussion was lively, with everyone actively participating. Participants emphasized that safety work required a high sense of responsibility and strict adherence to safety standards. Moving forward, their focus will shift to on-site operations, with increased inspection frequency. Through continuous learning, they will work to enhance the scientific and rational basis of inspections. They will apply zero tolerance for violations and for every identified hazard, designate a responsible party and a timeline for rectification, and closely monitor relevant progress to establish a closed-loop management system of inspection-rectification-re-inspection. Finally, a certification exam was administered to assess the effectiveness of the training.
In his closing remarks, Yang Zhiwei emphasized the principle of “safety first, prevention foremost”. He urged everyone to study diligently, enhance their professional knowledge, and apply it to their daily work. He encouraged them to approach their tasks with a keen eye for identifying issues, to speak up and take charge in their daily duties, and to adhere to principles. He also urged everyone to take pride in Huatai, treat the company with respect, and strive for mutual success.
This training session has enhanced the professional competence of the safety management engineers and laid a solid foundation for the company’s safe production!
